Best of Boston: Historical Image Resources Online

Wanted to share a set of the great and useful resources stumbled across on the web for historic images in and around  Boston. Expect more from these collections in the coming weeks. Above, photos from the Jamaica Plain High School yearbook of 1965. Have more to add? Leave a note.

Boston Public Library Photostream: Photographs, ephmera, manuscripts and 19th century scrapbooks from the BPL archives.

New York Public Library Photostream: You’ll be surprised what you find. The NYPL has good good stuff.

Massachusetts Historical Society: Digitized items from the collection, letters, manuscripts, photos, letters, and maps.

Digital Commonwealth: Searchable repository of heritage materials from a local libraries.

American Memory from the Library of Congress: Also includes, audio, video, sheet music, etc.

Boston Historical Society Photograph Collection: Searchable collection of photographs and postcards.

Cambridge Historical Society Photostream: Historic images, papers, and people.

Lawrence Historical Society Photostream: Buildings, people at work, people at the Lawrence Historical Society.

Brookline Historical Society: Places, in postcards and photographs, including some lantern slides.

Watertown Library Photo Collection: For some reason includes a still from King Kong vs Godzilla, but mostly historic Watertown places and people.

Jamaica Plain Historical Society Photos: Includes photos, digitized yearbooks from the 40s through 80s, advertisements.

Central and Western Mass.

Digital Treasures: A digital library project of images from Central and Western Massachusetts.

ImageMuseum: Jim and Russ Birchall have put together a fantastic collection of images and ephemera from Western Massachusetts, organized by town.
