Horticultural Society (The Massachusetts)

Description from Bacon’s Dictionary of Boston, 1886 on the Massachusetts Horticultural Society:

“Organized March 17, 1829, and incorporated the following month, this is the oldest horticultural society, with a single exception,–the Pennsylvania Society,–in the country. It has always maintained a foremost position among American societies of its class, and has done more than any other for the intelligent development of horticulture over a large field. It has also lent its influence to forward several educational enterprises and public improvements; its chief work  in the latter direction being the establishment of the beautiful cemetery of Mount Auburn.”
